Swimming at Therapaws
Therapeutic
Swimming
Swimming in our warm pool allows your dog to perform a non-weight-bearing exercise. Water-resistance is greater than air resistance meaning the muscles have to work harder. This might be necessary for many reasons including injury, old age, to build/maintain muscle, to prevent surgery and for post-op recovery.
Swimming for fun & recreation!
Swimming is great exercise! A 30-minute swim equates to approximately a 5-mile walk. Swimming for fun is also a great preventative measure - your dog will build muscular strength and cardiovascular endurance which will benefit them in their active lives.
Socialising for you & your dog
Your dog will make friends and may have regular swimming buddies! Introducing your dog to new experiences and locations will give them confidence!
We have dogs that have been swimming together for the last 10 years plus and it’s the highlight of their week!
Your dog may need the support of a life jacket which we provide, this gives your dog confidence in the water and
also means they can swim for longer but it is not necessary for all dogs.
